Gutierrez Company Day Tank Replacement

Gutierrez Company Day Tank Replacement

This project highlights the replacement of a 100-gallon fuel oil aboveground storage day tank (ASDT) that connects to a diesel powered fire pump at a Gutierrez Company property in Acton Ma. Fire pumps are needed when the local municipal water system cannot provide sufficient pressure to meet the hydraulic design requirements of the fire sprinkler system.

The site is a former Digital Equipment Corp property that is being renovated. The day tank was original to the building and needed to be upgraded to a double-wall tank to meet new codes. CommTank pumped out the fuel from the existing 100-gallon day tank and disconnected the fuel oil supply lines that ran from the day tank to the diesel fire pump. After disconnecting the electrical wires and level sensor we then removed and disposed of the old day tank. The old aboveground storage day tank was replaced with a UL-142 approved Highland Tank with base supports. New supply and return lines were installed and the electrical wire and sensors were reconnected. Level sensors were tested to assure proper operation and an interstitial leak sensor was installed to provide alarm notification for the double-wall tank. The diesel fire pump was then started to verify the new day tank installation was complete.
